개념화(Conceptualization)

• 지칭 대상에 명칭을 부여하고, 대상이 지닌 보편적 속성의 범주를 만든 후, 각 범주에 속하는 속성의 양을 정확히 측정할 수 있도록 조작하는 작업. 이론적 정의와 조작적 정의 두 단계로 이루어짐.

• 지칭 대상이 특정 속성을 갖고 있는지 여부를 밝혀주는 척도로, 상호 배타적인 속성 구간을 설정하여 대상이 어느 구간에 속하는지를 분류함.

순위척도(Ordinal Scale), 비교척도(Comparative Scale)

• 지칭 대상에 특정 속성이 상대적으로 어느 정도 존재하는지 밝히는 척도로, 속성 간의 상대적 순위를 나타냄.

정량척도(Quantitative Scale), 연속척도(Continuous Scale)

• 지칭 대상의 속성에 대한 절대량 또는 절대심도에 관한 수량적 정보를 제공하며, 절대영점을 갖는 비율척도와 갖지 않는 등간척도로 나뉨.

측정타당성(Measurement Validity)

• 측정지표가 의도한 속성을 정확히 측정하는 정도

• 추상적 개념을 다른 추상적 용어로 재구성하는 작업으로, 개념의 가장 일반적인 범주를 이론적으로 규정하는 목적을 가짐.

조작 정의(Operational Definition)

• 추상적 개념을 실증 가능한 지표로 재구성하여 이론적 정의를 통해 규정된 개념과 현실 세계를 연결시키는 작업.
